Global Sections: Reuse Content Across Your Form Templates

Global Sections are useful for content that needs to stay identical and up to date across many templates, such as:

Standard safety instructions
Company header or footer pages
Compliance checklists used across departments or locations

Note: Global Sections is available to Enterpise Customers or as an add-on. If you don't see this option in your account, contact your Customer Success Manager to have it enabled.

Key Concepts

Global section or page: A section or page that has been marked as reusable. It can be inserted into any other template. Editing it updates it everywhere it's used.

Local section or page: A regular section or page that only exists in one template. Most content in your templates is local by default.

Detaching: Turning a global section or page into a local one. Once detached, it stops receiving updates and only affects that one template.

Creating a Global Section or Page

Open the menu (three dots) on the section or page you want to make reusable.
Select the option to convert it into a global section or page.
Confirm the title. You can edit it if needed.

Once converted, that section or page becomes available to insert into any other template you have access to.

Inserting a Global Section or Page into a Template

Open the menu (three dots) on a section or page in the template you're editing.
Choose the option to insert a reusable section or page.
Select the one you want from the list.

If the section or page you're inserting into already has content, you'll be asked to confirm before it's replaced. When a global section or page is inserted, everything inside it (questions, sub-sections, and settings) is copied over exactly as it appears in the original.

Global sections and pages are marked with a visual indicator in the template editor, so you can easily tell them apart from regular content.

Editing a Global Section or Page

Any change you make to a global section or page updates it in every template where it's used. Each affected template's activity log will show that it was changed through a shared edit, so it's clear where the update came from.

To edit a global section or page, you need editing permission on every template it's used in. If you only have permission to edit some of those templates, you won't be able to edit or detach it. This protects templates you don't have access to from being changed indirectly.

Detaching a Global Section or Page

If you want to make changes that only apply to one template, you can detach the section or page. This turns it into a local copy that you can edit freely, without affecting any other template.

A few things to know:

You need editing permission on the section or page to detach it.
Once detached, it cannot be reconnected to the original shared version. You can, however, turn your detached copy into a new global section or page later if needed.
Duplicating a global section or page (instead of detaching it) also creates a local copy. You can't have two copies of the same global section or page in a single template.

Deleting a Global Section or Page

Removing a global section or page from one template doesn't delete it everywhere else, it just removes it from that template.

To permanently delete it from your account, use the delete option in its menu. A global section or page that's still in use in another template cannot be permanently deleted until it's removed from all of them.

Shared Response Sets

If a global section or page contains a dropdown or multiple-choice question, its response set (the list of answer options) can also be shared across templates.

To share a response set, enable the option to make it available across all templates.
Inside a global section or page, you'll see an option to create a local copy of the response set instead, which lets you break it out and edit it independently.
A shared response set that's in use in another template cannot be deleted.

Reporting on Global Sections

When you filter your analytics by a global section or page, you'll see combined results from every template it's used in. If you want to see results for just one template, add a template filter to narrow it down.

Detached copies are treated as separate content and won't be grouped together with the original in your reports.

Good to Know

A global section or page cannot contain another global section or page (no nesting).
Duplicating an entire template also duplicates any global sections or pages inside it, and they remain global.
You can't currently drag a section between pages directly. As a workaround, make the section reusable, then insert it on the page you want.
No special permissions are needed to use global sections and pages beyond the standard permission to manage templates.
